Ponda Khen Rinpoche (Khenchen Ngaga’s disciple)
Khenpo Nima’s first Guru taking refuge with him. Ponda Khengave him the name“Lhundop Gamtso” of refuge.
Khenpo Nima’s teacher, Tsering Dudjom taught him how to paint “Thangka” when he was 17 years old.
Tsering Dudjom’s 3 works of his mural paintings among all.
At 16, all monastery’s teachers and students recommended me, Tangpi Dorje, Kwopu.Yesheysytu, and Tshangkha Wancho to learn expertly painting “Thangka” which would be taught by Tsering Dudjom in the “Gamtso Choling” of theTharpaling Monastery.
We learnedpainting wellin the beginning. Two months later, we started to learn the measurement of Buddha according to the traditional school of “Menthang”. Therefore, I did finish the works of “Thangka”paintings and mural paintings by myself from the age of 17. Appreciate my archarya,Tsering Dudjom and the Dzongsar Monastery’s mercy.

Receiving the empowerment (Dudjom’s termas) taught by Dudjom Rinpoche at 21 in Nebal.
The photo was taken with all Bhutannese monks leaded by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Rabjam Rinpoche.
The photo was taken where I was under the tree of enlightment in India Bodh Gaya at my age of 24 in 1979.
Between 18 and 24,for serving Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, more than ten monks and I were selected by the Dzongsar Monastery as the acolytes helping “the Great Achievement Dharma Assembly” and the other various dharma assembly held by the king of Bhutan. Furthermore, when I was the offering executive, I was very grateful to have such a wonderful experience and great opportunities to serve Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. I worked hard to make the tormas and spent a lot of time to decorate tormas in the most beautiful way. I hoped Khyentse Rinpoche would be happy to see that. By the way, I received a lot of teachings and empowerments taught by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Especially, he empowered us according to the tradition of “Teaching for all ” with great pleasure and taught us the ways of empowerment, contemplation, and hold mantras of “Tantra Manjushri”.
He recalled there was one year, when he attended a public praying initiation of Nyingmapa lineage in India which was hosted by His Holiness Penor Rinpoche. Khenpo was in charge of making torma for this sacred ritual. As usual, Khenpo Nima was doing his best to manage this task.
Many Tibetan monks were very surprised and shot pictures for reference. Khenpo said that all the torma in other area (countries)are white in color except in Bhutan, therefore after the practice, there are many people were asking where to learn the painting of torma and then arrange their monks to study it in Dzongsar Monastery in Bhutan. Dzongsar Monastery is renowned to paint torma in Bhutan. So most of the monasteries in Tibet changed their torma to be colorful and varied styles.
